Verso’s Drafts is a standout oddity in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, where vibrant visuals clash with puzzles that feel rough, abstract, and unfinished.

You’ll find a talking Gingerbread Door inside, and it won’t open unless you give it a Birthday Cake.

Collecting the cake takes more effort than it seems, as its three pieces are scattered around the map.

How Do You Get the Birthday Cake?

In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the Birthday Cake is a special quest item found in the surreal late-game area known as Verso’s Drafts, a canvas-like zone filled with half-finished Gestrals, candy-colored scenery, and abstract puzzles pulled from Verso’s imagination.

The cake itself doesn’t exist as a single pickup. Instead, players must collect three separate Pieces of Cake, which automatically combine into a Birthday Cake once all requirements are met.

This completed cake is used to open a mysterious Gingerbread (Cake) Door, which speaks in riddles about birthdays, ingredients, and heartfelt presents before Verso explains that it simply wants cake.

Where Do You Get the First Piece of Cake?

The first Piece of Cake is obtained in the Gestral Baths area by completing a color-based statue puzzle tied to a Half-baked Lifeguard.

When you speak to the lifeguard near the pools and oversized Esquie statues, he accuses you of causing the statues’ strange coloring and asks you to fix it.

Scattered around the area are six Esquie statues, some red/orange and some interactive.

Your goal is to adjust them so that exactly three are blue and three remain red.

While some players approach this freely, the intended solution involves interacting with the statues near the baths and a hidden one under a waterfall path until the correct balance is achieved.

Once the color arrangement is correct, returning to the lifeguard rewards you with the first Piece of Cake.

How Do You Get the Second and Final Piece of Cake?

The second Piece of Cake is obtained through a short retrieval quest that begins near the water-filled areas of Verso’s Drafts, where a group of Half-baked Gestrals mention that their Toy Boat was swept away.

Agreeing to help sends you toward a nearby waterfall. Head down and move behind the water flow to find the Toy Boat hidden away, where it often looks like a glowing pink object instead of a traditional boat.

Once collected, return it to the Gestrals, who thank you by handing over another Piece of Cake.

The third and final Piece of Cake is tied to the carnival-style attraction in Candy Land, located on the opposite side of Verso’s Drafts.

After heading downhill and passing through a large archway, you’ll find a carousel and an NPC known as the Very Very Cool Gestral, a uniquely styled character clearly inspired by Verso himself.

He invites you to skip the line and ride the attraction, but there’s a catch: every playable character must take a turn on the ride.

You can only select one character at a time, so you’ll need to repeatedly speak to him until the entire party has participated.

Each character also unlocks a themed outfit during this process.

After the final ride is completed, the Gestral rewards you with the third Piece of Cake.

What Do You Do with the Birthday Cake?

Once all three Pieces of Cake are collected, the game automatically merges them into a Birthday Cake, with no extra steps required.

With the finished cake in your inventory, return to the Gingerbread Cake Door near the Reverie Path side of Verso’s Drafts.

While one nearby door serves only as an exit, continuing forward along the left side leads you to the interactable version.

Offering the Birthday Cake causes the door to open, granting access to a hidden area filled with additional enemies and secrets, including a notable optional encounter.
